Contouring is a face sculpting technique that is no more reserved to celebrities. Thanks to hundreds of videos and articles on face contouring techniques with makeup, more and more women are now trying to enhance their best features as well as make their face appear slimmer with contouring. Here are 4 professional contouring tips from A-list makeup artists that would help you get chiselled look with smart makeup techniques.

Before getting started with contouring, keep the basic products for the technique ready. All you need is a bronzer, a highlighter and few makeup brushes

To start, use the bronzer to define your face bone structure. This will sculpt and enhance your best features. The next step involves applying the highlighter. Highlighter is a product that helps in creating an illuminating effect, thus creating a candle-lit glow on the face. This adds brightness to your face and emphasis your face on those points. Professional makeup artists recommend using powder products than the liquid ones since the liquids products require more professional knowhow to blend perfectly. In addition, the powder ones have a more natural awe.

Contouring involves using a bronzer that is two to three shades darker than your normal skin tone. Always stick to browner shades, as these will define your features sharply.

After a bronzer is applied, a highlighter is applied to enhance the features you want to accentuate. A larger brush always works great while using a bronzer whereas smaller brushes like that of an eye shadow applicator works best when applying a highlighter.

Before sculpting your face, you need to prep it nicely so that the makeup gets a fresh and moisturised canvas. Apply a foundation that is closest to your natural skin Tone and a concealer to hide any breakouts of blotchy skin. Finish with a translucent powder to set the foundation. Once done, the areas to contour and highlight are nose, cheekbones and chin. Some also like to contour their foreheads.

Nose contouring: To make nose look smaller, the bronzer is applied with a makeup brush in light sides downwards on both sides of the nose. Next, use your finger to gently dab a little highlighter on the bridge of the nose.

Forehead contouring: To contour forehead, start-applying bronzer along the hairline with a makeup brush and go on to apply a little highlighter in the middle of the forehead.

Cheekbone contouring involves applying a bronzer directly on top of the cheekbones with a bigger brush and a little highlighter right above the bronzer with a flat fan brush.

To make the chin look slimmer, apply the bronzer along the jawline with a wide brush, blending down in to the chin.

To complete the look, use a large brush to blend everything so that the makeup looks subtle and flawless.
